Visa has updated its U.S. ATM Operating Rules to require Electronic Journals (E-Journals) for all ATM transactions. Paper journals are no longer acceptable. The change became effective October 18, 2025 and is part of broader security and operational enhancements.

1. Start your ATM. On  the "ATM Welcome Screen" write down this information:

  • ATM serial number

  • ATM terminal ID number

  • ATM software operating system

2. Now, skip down to #1 below and follow instructions.

#1  BACKUP (optional  -  as following these instructions will not remove your data)

Step-by-Step Data Backup for GenMega ATM

Step 1: In the "Journal Menu", select Copy JNL/Setup to SD/USB.

Step 2: Insert a formatted FAT32 USB drive or SD card (≤2 GB) into the port behind the LCD screen.

Step 3: Press Copy.

#2  ENABLE (enabling Electronic Journals)

Step 1: Access the "Operator Menu" On the ATM welcome screen, press these keys in exact order:

ENTER → CLEAR → CANCEL → 1 → 2 → 3. Enter your Password and press ENTER.

 

Step 2: Go to "Journal Menu" from the "Operator Menu", select "Journal".

 

Step 3: Enable EJ Upload. Select EJ Upload En/Disable (sometimes labeled “EJ Upload”). Select Enable.

Step 4: If there is no EJ Upload present. Close out of ATM, and set ready for customers, and skip down to #3 Upgrade, BELOW.​

 

If you completed steps above, your ATM will now automatically send journal records to your host, Switch Commerce (current record + oldest records until everything is uploaded).

#3  UPGRADE (your ATM's operating system)

Before ordering your FREE ATM operating system by clicking the button below, you should check to see if you can up-date the operating system on line by following these easy to do steps:

 

Step 1: Go to "Main Operator Screen" on ATM.

Step 2: Click "System Set-up".

Step 3: Click "Device Set-up", you will see four options.​

Step 4: If available, Click "Up-date to Latest Version", then reboot the ATM (turn off/on) for the change to take effect. If successful, you are done!

Step 6: If "Up-date to Latest Version" isn't available, back out to "Main Operator Screen". Look to see if "ATM Operating Version" starts with a "P", if it does start with a "P", reboot the ATM (turn off/on) and set for customer usage, and order your FREE "New ATM Operating System" by calling the number below:​
